About Me

“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” - Brené Brown

Lizzy White, MA, LPC

I grew up on California’s Central Coast, where my love of nature began—playing outside with my dogs, plunging into the ocean with friends and taking long walks with my family. Although my childhood was filled with light, connection, and adventure, it also brought emotional challenges. As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), I struggled with emotional regulation, transitions, grief and navigating relationships.

Even without the tools or skills at the time, I learned that difficult emotions are temporary, and that light finds its way, even in the darkest moments. This journey ultimately inspired me to name my practice Solace Within Counseling and design a logo featuring both the sun and the moon, symbolizing the balance of light and darkness.

I earned my B.A. in Sociology from Sonoma State and later pursued my M.A. in Counseling with a focus on Wilderness Therapy at Naropa University in Boulder, CO. Both my professional experience and personal journey have reinforced my passion for supporting others—especially young people whose brains are still developing—as they navigate intense emotions and discover solace through life’s challenges.

Today, I help clients build tools for healing, growth and resilience; not to avoid pain, but to move through it. Outside of the office, you might find me backpacking or hiking new trails, skiing, cooking, traveling, seeing live music, walking with my partner and dog, Chief, or practicing yoga.

FAQs

  • Play is a child’s natural language of expression. Just as adults may talk through their thoughts and emotions in therapy, children are given the opportunity to “play out” their feelings and challenges in a safe, supportive environment.

As a recognized and evidence-based approach to treating children, Play Therapy is a powerful modality for addressing cognitive, behavioral, and emotional concerns.

  • The length of therapy can vary depending on several factors, including the individuals specific needs, the nature of the issues being addressed, and the goals of the therapy.

I usually recommend committing to at least 2-3 months of consistent weekly sessions to build the rapport needed for meaningful change. After that, we can reassess how you're feeling about goals and decide if meeting every other week or once a month would be more beneficial for you.

  • Solace Within Counseling is in-network with Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and will soon be in-network with UnitedHealthcare and Kaiser.

  • $150 per 50-60 minute session.

I also offer a limited number of sliding scale slots and accept out-of-network benefits. If you are out-of-network , I can provide you with a superbill at the end of each month that you can submit to your insurance company. Before booking an appointment, I suggest calling the number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about your out-of-network therapy benefits and learn how to submit an out-of-network reimbursement claim.

  • To avoid being charged the full session fee of $150, please provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Your scheduled session time is reserved exclusively for you, and cancellations or delays can affect both my work and other clients' schedules.

If you're able to reschedule within the same calendar week, I will waive the late-cancellation fee. However, if rescheduling isn't possible or if no availability remains within that week, the full late-cancellation fee will apply. In some cases, such as severe weather, I may offer Telehealth sessions as an alternative.
